Catering?
BabyBluCatering by BabyBluChef is a small events catering company based in the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
Events are curated with the utmost attention to detail with the clients’ vision in mind. We take pride in using a wide array of cooking techniques and sustainable ingredients to create dishes that are as memorable as your event. Our events range from small private dinner parties to birthday dinners, small venues, and so on.
The Beginning…
Vinny Bhatia, the founder of BabyBluCatering, BabyBluChef, and SkyBlu Hospitality Group LLC, is a New Jersey native living in New York City who has always had a fascination about all things culinary. Since he was young, Vinny and his family traveled all over the world thanks to his dads job, this was Vinny’s introduction into the hospitality industry. When they weren’t traveling and when Vinny was not in school, he would be in the kitchen cooking with his mom. In high school his brother asked him one simple question: What do YOU want to do with you life? That’s when he made the decision to go to culinary school. Vinny’s passion for the culinary arts was exemplified when he attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York where he studied Culinary Arts as well as Food and Beverage Management with a focus in Advanced Wine and Hospitality. While in his Bachelor’s program, Vinny lived and studied wine in Napa Valley, California where his passion for beverage took off.
Vinny has worked and trained in restaurants and wineries from Hudson Valley, New Jersey, New York City, and Napa Valley. He also holds a Level 1 Certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers course, Wine Spirits Education Trust Level 3, and he is also a Hospitality Beverage Specialist with the Society of Wine Educators.
In 2020 during the Covid-19 Pandemic, Vinny decided to focus on learning how to own and operate a business while at home, which is here the idea for the hospitality group and catering company was born.
Why BabyBlu?
Ever since I was young, I was always attracted to lighter colors from clothing, to glasses, to art from my travels. I would wear lighter colored shirts, pants, etc and this led me to buying a pair of baby blue colored glasses from Warby Parker when I was in college. I thought I’d just try them out and see how they fit and I ended up loving them and wore them as my regular pair every day until they physically broke and I had to buy another pair! It became a part of my personality so much so that as a joke I created a cooking account on Instagram called BabyBluChef (dropping the E from blue was a suggestion from my mom), in part as a joke, but it quickly felt like a brand that I could really build and work with. It has begun to define my clothing and cooking style, something fun with a modern touch.
I wanted to create a way for people to enjoy fine dining in a fun, relaxed and affordable way (most importantly!) My hope is that we can work together taking the BabyBlu style and working it to fit the vision you have for your next special event!
